Overview
Jilotepec is one of Mexico's official Pueblos Mágicos, offering a scenic colonial center with 16th-century churches and a tranquil atmosphere far from Mexico City's crowds. Jilotepec is a Pueblo Mágico with Franciscan-founded 16th-century church, Otomi museum, and unusual distillery producing whiskey instead of tequila.
Food
Regional specialties include huitlacoche (corn fungus truffle) and guisanos de maguey (maguey caterpillars). Mercado San José opens 07:00-18:00; Friday tianguis runs 06:00-19:30.
Transport
Central de Autobuses has first and second-class buses to Mexico City (Terminal del Norte). Local transport requires taxis or combis. Bathrooms at bus station cost M$6.
