Overview
Jiaozi Snow Mountain (Jiàozǒ Xuěshān) is a national nature reserve straddling Dongchuan district and Luquan county in Kunming Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Despite its name, snow is only present from October to April, but year-round the park offers alpine lakes, waterfalls, and ancient dead-tree groves at altitudes above 4,000 m.

Before you go
Money
Park admission is ¥54 plus ¥30 shuttle bus, ¥3 optional insurance, and ¥35 per ropeway direction. Cash may be preferred at the park entrance.
Safety
Altitude exceeds 4,000 m — expect sudden weather changes and real risk of altitude sickness. Descend if symptoms appear. Carry warm clothing year-round.
Transport
Daily buses (07:30 from Kunming North Railway Station) require booking a day ahead. Zhuanlong town at the mountain base has buses every 60-90 minutes from Kunming’s north bus station.
Weather
Snow present October–April only. Summer months are snow-free but can still be cold at altitude. Weather changes abruptly regardless of season.
