Overview
Jianshui is one of Yunnan's most important historic towns, centered on Confucian learning since the Yuan Dynasty. The county seat Lin'an Town preserves four original Ming Dynasty gate towers, a grand Temple of Confucius billed as the largest in Southern China, and traditional Zi Tao purple pottery.

Mobile coverage is good in Lin'an Town. Major Chinese carriers (China Mobile, China Unicom) offer SIM cards with data packages.
Culture
Jianshui is a center of Confucian heritage. The Temple of Confucius features ornate gates, halls, and the Xuehai lake surrounded by cypress trees.
Food
Crossing-the-bridge-noodles (guoqiao mian) at the old train station. Wholesale Farm Market has fresh wontons for ¥10.
Money
Chinese Yuan (¥) is the local currency. ATMs available in town. Most guesthouses and restaurants accept cash; some larger hotels take cards.
Transport
Jianshui Station is a few km northeast of historic Lin'an Town; take bus no. 919 to reach downtown. The tourist narrow-gauge train departs from Lin'an Station twice daily.
Weather
Best visited in spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November). Rainy season May-October brings 800-1200mm annual precipitation.
