Before you go
Connectivity
Japan uses 100V Type A/B plugs. Free WiFi is limited; consider renting a pocket WiFi or purchasing a SIM card (data-only plans available at convenience stores).
Etiquette
Public onsen require complete nudity; wash thoroughly before entering. Tattoos may be restricted at some facilities. Remove shoes before entering ryokan rooms and temples.
Health
Tap water is safe to drink. Wasabi ice cream and wasabi-flavored snacks are popular local treats. Seek medical attention at hospitals in Mishima for serious health issues.
Money
Japan is cash-dependent; carry sufficient yen as many small establishments do not accept cards. Convenience store ATMs (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) accept foreign cards.
Transport
Shuzenji is on the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line; change at Mishima for Shinkansen. JR Pass covers only the ¥510 local segment from Mishima. Buses run every 15 minutes from the station to the onsen area.
