Overview
Izapa is one of the oldest Maya sites in Mexico, with structures dating from around 800 BC. The site is remarkably accessible, located just 10 minutes northeast of Tapachula on federal highway MEX 200, making it an easy half-day excursion.

Fees
Daily admission to the archaeological site is M$85, paid at the site entrance gate. Local guardians can be hired for a few hours to guide you and clear jungle paths.
Time needed
Plan 2-3 hours to explore all three groups of ruins and walk the trails. Morning visits are recommended to avoid heat.
Transport
The site is reached by taxi from Tapachula, about 10 minutes northeast on federal highway MEX 200. No public transportation directly serves the site.
Water
Bring 2 liters of bottled water; no water sources are available within the archaeological site.
