Things to do
Sobi Hill offers ancient history as a former refuge during intertribal wars. The Okuta Ilorin stone in Idi-Ape Quarters marks where the city's founder Ojo Isekuse sharpened his tools - the etymology of "Ilorin" (ilo irin = stone for sharpening metals). The National Museum on Abdulkadri Road displays cultural and ethnographic objects from Nigeria's diverse cultures. Metropolitan Park on Unity Road provides recreation, while the Kwara State Stadium Complex features an Olympic-sized swimming pool and diving facilities. A baseball park exists in the Adewole area. The Cultural Centre houses the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture with performing troupes and galleries selling cultural souvenirs.

Safety
Ilorin has become much safer to visit than in previous years. The state government has invested heavily in security with police patrol cars and CCTV cameras (though coverage is not universal). Violent crime against tourists is rare. However, remain alert during late night outings and stick to crowded streets. Travel in groups rather than alone at night. Do not openly flaunt possessions, particularly in public places. Be skeptical of business deals that seem too good to be true, especially unsolicited emails. The people of Ilorin are generally friendly and will readily offer directions if lost.
