Ijevan sits just 25 minutes north of Dilijan but feels like a completely different world — less resort, more real Armenian town. The main market along the highway is the biggest in the region, bustling with locals and great for sampling oghi (fruit vodka), dried fruits, and honey.

Armenian Dram (AMD) is the currency. ATMs are limited in Ijevan — withdraw in Dilijan or Yerevan before arriving. The central market and small shops are cash-only; hotels accept some card payments.

Ijevan is generally safe. Standard urban precautions apply near the market and river areas. Police and tourist office exist but English is not guaranteed.
Transport
Marshrutkas connect Ijevan to Yerevan, Dilijan, and the Georgian border. Taxis are available but always negotiate the price beforehand. Roads to surrounding monasteries are often unpaved — allow extra travel time.
