Overview
Hokuto is a sprawling rural municipality in central Yamanashi prefecture, formed by merging multiple small towns and villages into Japan's third-largest city by area. Limited options within Hokuto. Book well ahead for cherry blossom season. Consider basing in Kofu for more hotel variety.
Seasonal
Visit late March-early April for cherry blossoms (Jindai-zakura peak). The Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum closes December through early March.
Transport
Rent a car for any meaningful exploration. Public buses run only 2-4 times daily. Nearest Shinkansen is at Kofu, requiring 40 minutes further travel.
