Overview
Hita is a small historic city in western Oita prefecture that offers a more relaxed and accessible alternative to the prefectural capital. The city is famous for its annual Gion Festival featuring six massive floats, traditional Onta pottery produced in a mountain village since the 16th century, and hot spring resorts along the Mikuma River.
