Overview
Guide (Guìdé) is a Tibetan county in Qinghai province near the confluence of the Yellow, Yangtze, and Mekong rivers. As of 2016, new highways make it an easy 3-hour return day trip from Xining.

Guide is a Tibetan county; some locals may not speak Mandarin fluently. English signage is minimal. A smile and patience go a long way.

Local currency is Chinese Yuan (CNY, ¥). Credit cards rarely accepted outside upscale hotels. Carry cash for buses, taxis, and local purchases.
Safety
Standard precautions apply. Hitchhiking back from Yellow River Scenic Area is reported as easy and safe. Hot springs involve communal nudity—respect local customs.
Transport
Buses run every 40 min from Xining West Bus Station (07:00-18:00) for about ¥30; last return from Guide at 17:45. Local taxis start at ¥5.
