Overview
Gorongosa National Park in Central Mozambique is a 4,000 km² wilderness at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley. Once devastated by civil war, it has been remarkably restored and is now one of Mozambique's premier safari destinations, offering diverse ecosystems and dense wildlife.

Malaria area; prophylaxis recommended. Basic clinic on-site, serious cases transported to Vila Gorongosa.
Language
Portuguese is national language; English spoken in cities; local languages include Sena and Chi-Gorongosi. Park staff speak English and Portuguese.
Safety
No fuel sold inside; buy from reliable stations in nearby towns.
Transport
No self-driving; guided game drives only. Park closed mid-Dec to late March.
