Overview
Gangotri is one of India's most visited holy places, believed to be where Goddess Ganga first touched earth. As one of the four Char Dham Yatra sites (alongside Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Yamunotri), it draws thousands of pilgrims seeking spiritual merit.

Food
Only vegetarian food available; alcohol and non-vegetarian items strictly prohibited in Gangotri.
Safety
Remote area with limited medical facilities. High altitude trekking requires acclimatization. Monsoon brings landslide risks.
Transport
Road access only from Uttarkashi. Shared jeeps and taxis available. No public bus service directly to Gangotri.
Weather
Best visited May to October. Temple closed November to April due to heavy snowfall and harsh winter conditions.
