Overview
Funza is not a tourist destination—it's a working middle-class suburb of Bogotá where foreigners are rare. But that rarity is exactly the appeal: most everyone you meet will want to chat, practice English, or share a story.

Before you go
Food
Seek out mantecadas (cheesy puff pastries) and masato (maize drink with cloves and cinnamon)—both local specialties found nowhere else.
Money
COP$45,000 for a hotel room (Hotel Luxor). Street food and local drinks will cost far less. Colombian peso is the currency.
Nightlife
Calle 15 southeast of main square has bars playing reggaeton and salsa. Aguardiente is the drink of choice; masato is the local non-alcoholic alternative.
Safety
Standard urban precautions apply. Taxis available at night. Locals may be overprotective rather than there being real danger.
Transport
Take Transmilenio to Portal 80, then a colectivo to Funza (every 10 min, under 30 min). Return from Calle 15 north of main plaza.
