Overview

Fårö is a small island off Gotland with just 500 permanent residents, offering a tranquil escape from busier destinations. The island is world-famous as the summer retreat and filming location of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, whose grave lies in the 14th-century church cemetery.

No emergency vehicles on island; responders must arrive by boat. Rocky beaches can be slippery.

Peak season is June-August. Winter has fewer ferry services and limited restaurant availability.
