Overview
Enshi is a multi-ethnic city of 891,000 residents where 41% belong to Tujia, Miao, and Dong minorities. The region offers dramatic karst landscapes including the 108-km Enshi Grand Canyon, traditional Tujia architecture at the Imperial City, and the annual Nuer Hui (Daughter’s Meeting) festival celebrated as “Oriental Valentine’s Day.” Enshi is also China’s “City of Selenium”—locally grown potatoes and tea are prized for their high selenium content, and the cuisine reflects Tujia and Miao culinary traditions distinct from mainstream Chinese cooking.
