Efate is the hub of tourism in Vanuatu, home to the vast majority of resorts and tourist infrastructure. The island offers access to a dozen nearby islands, many of which also host resorts, making it an ideal base for exploring the archipelago.

Safety
Earthquake and cyclone risks exist. A major earthquake struck in December 2024. Monitor weather during cyclone season (Nov-Apr).
Transport
No public transport exists on Efate. Rent a car, charter a taxi, or join a tour. The 140 km paved ring road circumnavigates the island in 2-3 hours.
Water
The Blue Lagoon has no beach and minimal facilities. Bring everything you need when visiting.
