Overview
Crater Lake National Park protects the deepest lake in the United States at 1,943 feet (592 m), filling a nearly 4,000-foot (1,220 m) deep volcanic caldera. The lake's striking cobalt-blue color comes from its exceptional clarity and depth.

Money
Entrance fee $30 per car (2020). Major campgrounds $10-$32.50/night. Boat tours $25. Credit cards accepted at visitor centers; carry cash for smaller purchases.
Packing
Layers essential even in summer. Bring more water than you think needed. Sturdy hiking boots recommended for steep trails.
Safety
Caldera rim hiking is prohibited and fatal. Stay on trails. Bring water, food, warm layers, and rain gear. No water available on most trails.
Transport
A private vehicle is essential; no public transportation serves the park. Rim Drive is 33 miles and only open late June to mid-October.
Weather
Located at 7,000+ feet elevation with 533 inches of annual snowfall. Summer temperatures range from 50s-70s Fahrenheit. Afternoon thunderstorms are common.
