Overview
The Cradle of Humankind is a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning 47,000 hectares with 13 major fossil sites and over 200 caves. In 2013, the previously unknown hominid Homo naledi was discovered here, dating to the Middle Pleistocene Age (335,000-236,000 years ago).

Transport
Car rental is recommended for visiting the Cradle; public transport is minimal. From Johannesburg, the drive takes approximately 45-60 minutes via the N14.
Weather
Summer brings heat and occasional storms; winter is drier and cooler. Cave interiors remain at constant temperature year-round.
