Overview
Choroní is one of Venezuela's best Caribbean beach destinations, combining colonial charm with stunning natural beauty. The hamlet itself sits slightly inland with fine colonial houses around a quiet central plaza, while the neighbouring fishing village of Puerto Colombia holds the palm tree-lined beaches.

Before you go
Food
Fried fish with tostones is the beach staple. Try local arepas and empanadas. Dorado (mahi mahi) is always fresh same-day catch.
Transport
Buses from Maracay run every couple of hours (more frequent on weekends). The 45-km mountain road has narrow hairpin bends—about 2 hours by bus, 1.5 hours by car.
Water
Boat trips ('lanchas') to Cepe (30 min) and Chuao (20 min) are needed to reach the most beautiful beaches.
