Getting In
See the Metro Cebu article for details. The main gateway is Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City, with many domestic and international flights. The seaport is the busiest in the Philippines, with ferries to many Visayan and Mindanao ports.

See the Metro Cebu article for general transport. In the city, jeepneys and taxis are common. Tricycles for short trips. Walking is possible in the old Colon district. Traffic can be heavy.

Talk
The main local language is Cebuano. English is widely spoken, especially in business and tourism. Tagalog is less common than elsewhere in the Philippines. Some Chinese minority speak Hokkien.

Ride a tartanilla (horse-drawn carriage) in Carlock St, see the skyline from Marcelo Fernan Bridge, or visit Tops Lookout on Mt Busay (taxi around PHP 500). For adrenaline, Sky Experience Adventure at Crown Regency has edge walks and rides. Cockfighting is also popular.

Shopping ranges from malls like Ayala Mall, SM City Cebu, SM Seaside, and Robinson’s Fuente to the huge Carbon Market (farmers' market). Colonnade Mall is the biggest air-conditioned mall downtown. For foreign exchange, Alco Foreign Exchange or HSBC ATMs (no fee for overseas cards). Book lovers: Fully Booked, National Book Store, or Book Sale (used books from PHP 10).

Food & Drink
Cebu City has a wide range of eateries from street food to buffet restaurants. Local specialties include lechon, pochero, and ngohiong. Budget meals at food courts (Robinsons Fuente, Elizabeth Mall) from PHP 50-100. For nightlife, Mango Avenue and Mango Square have bars, nightclubs, and girlie bars. Expat pubs like The Philly Sports Bar (beer from PHP 45) and Our Place Pub (meals from PHP 75) are popular.

Budget accommodation is abundant. Hostels: Nacho Hostel (dorm from PHP 350), Nomad's Hub (from PHP 350), Mad Monkey (from PHP 400). Cebu City is a hub for the Visayas. Popular day trips: Moalboal (diving, bus 2.5-3 hr, PHP 140), Camotes Islands (fast ferry), Bantayan Island, Oslob (whale sharks). Further destinations: Bohol (Chocolate Hills, tarsiers), Dumaguete, Bacolod. Buses and ferries are frequent.
