Overview
Caracol was one of the most powerful cities in the Maya world, at its peak larger in area than modern Belize City with twice the population of today's capital. The archaeological site extends over 200 km² with many restored structures including the impressive Sky Palace temple complex.

Money
Park entrance fee is BZ$15, cash preferred. No ATMs or card facilities at the site. Bring sufficient cash from San Ignacio or Belmopan.
Packing
Bring all food and drinks needed as there are no stores along the route. Wear sturdy shoes for exploring uneven jungle terrain.
Safety
A military garrison is stationed at the site. Consider traveling with other vehicles on the remote road sections.
Transport
Tours from San Ignacio, Belmopan, or Belize City are the easiest option. Self-drive requires 4WD and good preparation. Road conditions deteriorate significantly in rainy season.
