Overview
Çankırı sits 140 km north of Ankara on the Anatolian plateau, a 90-minute drive across windswept steppes with remarkable views of eroded hillsides. It feels much further from the capital than it is—a conservative provincial backwater where Byzantines once exiled troublemakers to the place they called Gangra ("goats").
