Overview
Bolu sits astride the main land route between Istanbul and Ankara, making it a natural stopover 260 km east of Istanbul and 190 km northwest of Ankara. The town itself is modern and humdrum with few antiquities, but the surrounding Köroğlu Mountains are dotted with forested lakes, ski resorts, and traditional villages that have preserved their architecture.

Transport
Hourly buses connect Bolu with Istanbul (4-5 hours, 450 TL) and Ankara (3 hours). The bus station is 3 km west of town; dolmuş transfer may be included in your ticket.
Weather
Bolu sits at 742 m altitude; summers reach 28°C but winters drop to -2°C with snow. Mountains create frequent rain. Best visiting months are May-June and September-October.
