Overview
Birgi is a small historic village that served as capital of the Aydınoğulları principality from the 13th to 15th century, and has been little developed since. Its original Seljuk and early Ottoman street layout remains intact, with period monuments including the 1312 Grand Mosque, two medieval tombs, a 1761 merchant mansion, and a restored Byzantine tower.
