Overview
Biñan is a heritage city in Laguna province where the Philippines' national hero, Jose Rizal, received his first formal education between 1869 and 1871. Unlike many Philippine cities, Biñan has preserved a sizeable number of colonial-era buildings in its legally designated heritage zone, making it a rewarding day trip from Manila for history enthusiasts.

Biñan is famous for Puto, a steamed rice cake. The Puto Latik Festival celebrates this delicacy every May 15-23.
History
The city preserves Spanish colonial heritage with Rizal-related sites including the School of Rizal Site and Museum, Alberto Mansion, and Plaza Rizal.
Transport
Jeepneys and tricycles are the main local transport. Jeepneys run along National Highway and General Malvar Street; tricycles cover barangays not served by jeepneys.
