Overview
Białowieża is one of Europe's last and most significant primeval forests, a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning Poland and Belarus. The park is most famous for its population of European bison (żubr), the continent's largest land mammal, which was brought back from near-extinction here after World War II when only 22 remained globally.
