Overview
Banbridge grew as a staging post for mail coaches between Belfast and Newry, and in the 19th century was the principal linen-producing district in Ireland. The town has Georgian buildings north of the river, and the famous Game of Thrones Studio tour is nearby at the Outlet Park.

History
Banbridge was the principal linen-producing district in Ireland by 1772. The Jacquard loom invented here influenced the development of modern computers; Hollerith's 80-column cards remained in use until 1980.

Transport
Banbridge is on the A1 between Belfast and Newry. Goldliner Bus 238 runs every 20-30 min from Belfast (50 min) and continues to Newry (40 min more). From Dublin, take Goldliner X1 (2 hr). Bus 62 runs from Portadown (40 min).
