Overview
Badagry is a historic coastal town in Lagos State, Nigeria, with a 2016 population of about 241,000. Known as the 'gateway of civilization of Nigeria,' it was the key port for the transatlantic slave trade and now preserves that history in several museums and heritage sites.

Egun is the native language though Yoruba is widely spoken. The town is known for its hospitable disposition.

Safety
Be cautious at beaches as broken bottles may be present. Monitor local network coverage as outages can occur.
Transport
From Lagos, take a bus from Oshodi to Mile 2, then another bus to Badagry (₦1000-₦1500). Within Badagry, bikes and keke (tricycles) are available.
Weather
Best visited mid-July to early September or mid-December to late January. Beach visits not advised during rainy season due to rising sea levels.
