Before you go
Etiquette
Beach attire is acceptable on the sand but cover up when walking to restaurants or shops on Rua das Pedras. Tipping is common in restaurants (10% is often added automatically).
Money
Brazilian Reais (R$) is the currency. Pay-by-the-kilo restaurants (like Boom) offer better value than table-service restaurants. Internet cafes charge around R$ 6/hour.
Nightlife
Nightlife starts late—bars fill around 22:00, clubs open after 00:00 and go until sunrise. This is normal for the beach culture here.
Transport
Buses connect Búzios to Rio de Janeiro (3 hours) and São Paulo (6 hours). The town is walkable in the center; local buses and taxis serve the peninsula.
Weather
High season is December-March with hot weather and crowded beaches. July brings the Jazz Festival. Shoulder seasons offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds.
