Overview

Araku Valley is a tribal hill station in the Eastern Ghats, about 110 km from Visakhapatnam, often called the Ooty of Andhra Pradesh. The valley is blessed with enchanting beauty — hills, greenery, streams, and particularly lovely morning fog.

Accommodation

Book early, especially November to February. Options are limited — APTDC lodge, Araku Cottages & Tents, Ananthagiri Resorts, Haritha Valley Resort, and others.

Food

Bamboo Chicken is the signature tribal dish. Local South Indian, Indian, Chinese, and Continental options available. Coffee from local plantations is a specialty.

Transport

Limited public bus service in Araku Valley. Cabs can be hired at APTDC lodge for day trips. Araku railway station connects the valley to the rail network.

Weather

Best visited November to February. Morning fog is particularly lovely. Monsoon season (June-September) is best for waterfalls but roads can be challenging.
