Apizaco is a commercial town of 82,000 people in Tlaxcala state, not scenic or tourist-oriented. Its main value for travelers is as the jumping-off point for climbing La Malinche volcano, which at 4,462 m rivals Mount Whitney.

Apizaco is a working commercial town with standard urban precautions. The volcano trail is generally safe but go with company for the long hike.
Transport
Colectivos to La Malinche leave from across the street from Elektra on Serdan, three blocks south of 16 Sept. First departure ~08:20; last descent 17:00. Taxis charge ~M$200 to the trailhead.
Weather
Winter (dry season) is best for hiking. Summers can be hot; winters may bring snow at higher elevations. Temperatures can drop below 0°C in winter.
