Getting in

Agadir's international airport (AGA) receives flights from major European cities. By bus, CTM and Supratours connect to Essaouira (3 hr, 70 dirham), Ouarzazate (6 hr, 140 dirham), and Marrakech (3.5 hr, 100 dirham). The main bus hub is in Inezgane, 10 km away, with cheaper options. A city bus from Inezgane center costs 3.50 dirham.

Getting around

Taxis are available; petit taxis within city cost around 6 dirham to the seafront. City buses like #60 and #12 serve nearby beaches like Taghazout (12 dirham). Walking is possible in central areas.

When to go

Agadir enjoys a mild climate year-round. Winters are mild (21°C high, 8°C low) with some rain; summers are warm and dry. The best time for beach is summer, but surfing is best from November to March.

Where to stay

The main budget accommodation area is Nouveau Tablorjt, where a simple double room costs 150-180 dirham. Backpacker-friendly hotels like Hotel Diaf offer singles from 130 dirham. For more comfort, Hotel Petit Suede offers singles from 190 dirham with breakfast.

Food and drink

New Talbourjt offers the cheapest meals, with menus starting at 35 dirham. Beachfront restaurants are pricier. Look for street vendors selling sfinj (sweet fried bread) for 1-2 dirham. For drinks, head to cafes on Avenue Hassan II like La Fontaine or night clubs in tourist zones. Alcohol is available at supermarkets like Uniprix.

Things to do

The main attraction is the long beach, great for sunbathing and water sports. Souk El Had has over 3000 stalls for shopping. Visit the Fortress for panoramic views (free), or the Memory of Agadir Museum (20-30 dirham) to learn about the 1960 earthquake. Surfing is popular from November to March.

Day trips

Several day trips possible: Taghazout (15 km, 12 dirham by bus) for surfing; Taroudannt (80 km) for a historic walled city; Souss-Massa National Park (40 km) for birdwatching; and Imouzzer (60 km) for waterfalls.

Go next

From Agadir, you can head south to Tiznit, Mirleft, and Sidi Ifni along the coast, or east to Taroudannt and eventually Marrakech. Northern beaches like Taghazout and Tamraght are popular for surfing.

    Anezi Hotel Agadir

    The hotel has a commanding position with a magnificent view of the bay and the city. Guests can keep in shape in the gym, have a swim in one of the 3 beautiful outdoor pools, or relax in the health club with a sauna, or a massage. Your children will be entertained in the kids club, while you can unwind enjoying a cool drink from one of the three bars. Amenities of this Agadir Hotel include conference and banqueting facilities, and there is a business center, where guests can access the Internet. In the evening, the traditional Moroccan-style restaurant Fez features live folk music, the hotel restaurant serves a buffet, including salads, chicken dishes, fish tagine specialties, fresh fruit, Moroccan cakes and soups, and there is also a pizza restaurant.

    20 minutes from Agadir, this ecolodge is the perfect place to discover centuries-old Berber culture and the unesco Argan Biosphere Reserve. It features gourmet food using fresh and natural product especially ones from the organic garden of the Kasbah. The objectives of the ecolodge is to provide a comfortable and educational experience for guests by learning about local customs, food and traditions as well as the natural environment. Thus, it is a learder in the Souss region in alternative technology and high environmental standards as well as positive economic side effects for the local population.

    Hotel Diaf

    If you're on a budget this hotel is a great place to stay. It's near where the bus stops (1 min walk), right next to an internet cafe and about 20 min walk or a 6 dirham taxi ride (don't forget to get them to turn the meter on) to the seafront. It is possible to stay in a room on the roof with a double bed and a single for 100 dirham. The best thing is, it has an amazing warm shower with a large showerhead. The rooms definitely have a "backpackers" feel, but it's a great, and cheap experience.

    Close to the centre, rooms with shower (shared toilet), very clean, breakfast served in a rooftop eatery. Street-facing rooms can be a bit noisy. In the heart of the city: 5 min walk to the beach, 25 min from the airport, 10 minutes from the souk (al had), 5 minutes from shopping center.

    Cheap place to stay. Hot shower outside - from 07:00-10:00 morning and 18:00-21:00. The electricity plugs are hidden on left side of the neon lamp above sink in your room. Just ask receptionist. Rooms could be quite noisy as hotel is close to the street and those crazy motorcycle drivers without exhaust pipes. So if you are sensitive, don't forget about your ear plugs.
