Overview

Adapazarı serves as a key transit hub on the route between Istanbul and Ankara, with YHT fast trains stopping at Arifiye station. The city was devastated by the 17 August 1999 earthquake (7.6 magnitude) along the North Anatolian fault line but has been rebuilt.

Safety

The city lies on the North Anatolian fault line. The 1999 earthquake (7.6 magnitude) devastated the area. Fault movement continues and centers are migrating west toward Istanbul.

Transport

Adapazarı railway station is 10 km southwest of the city centre; Arifiye station serves all long-distance YHT trains. Regional trains also stop at Mithatpaşa.
