Abbottabad is a hill station city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, popular as a summer escape from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Founded as a British district headquarters in the 1850s, it was named after Major James Abbott and later became internationally notorious for the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Get in

From Rawalpindi or Islamabad, Abbottabad can be reached by road in under 3 hours. Daewoo bus service operates multiple daily services for under Rs. 500 per passenger. It is also an hour's drive from Nathia Gali. There is no railway service; trains terminate in Havelian, 30 minutes south.

Getting around

The city is compact and easily navigable by local taxis or motorbikes. For nearby attractions like Thandiani (25 km) or Nathia Gali (1 hour drive), hiring a private taxi or joining a shared jeep is common. Public transport options within the city are limited, so negotiating fares upfront is recommended.
