Overview
Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa Natural Park is the finest volcanic landscape on the Iberian Peninsula, with roughly 40 dormant volcanic cones and more than 20 basaltic lava flows spread across 11 municipalities. The park offers exceptional hiking through ancient lava fields crowned by beech forests, medieval villages perched on cliffs, and well-preserved crater rims with 360-degree viewpoints.

Language
Catalan is the primary language in La Garrotxa, with Spanish also widely spoken. Road signs and official information appear in Catalan.

Euro (€) is the local currency. Most villages have ATMs. Cash preferred in smaller establishments.
Safety
Volcanoes are dormant and safe to visit. Trails are well-marked but can be muddy. Stick to designated paths in nature reserves.
Transport
Teisa buses connect Girona to Olot; the GI-524 is the main park road. Free parking available at Parc Nou (Olot) and Parc de Pedra Tosca; paid parking (€4) at volcanic sites.
Weather
Mild Mediterranean mountain climate with regular rainfall year-round. Best hiking May-October. Cool summers (25°C max) but cold winters with frost.
