Before you go
Connectivity
Limited connectivity information available in article. Expect standard Australian mobile coverage but potentially spotty in this remote location.
Health
No pharmacy in Yulara; medical centre provides only basic medications. The Royal Flying Doctor Service handles serious medical evacuations. Extreme heat requires hydration vigilance, especially summer months.
Money
Yulara is extremely expensive due to its monopoly operator and remote location. Prices for everything—accommodation, food, groceries—exceed major city rates. The IGA supermarket has the most reasonable grocery prices. Bring sufficient cash or ensure your ATM card works at the ANZ bank ATM.
Packing
Bring fly nets—everyone wears them once the flies emerge. Strong sun protection is essential year-round. The shopping centre has limited supplies if you forget anything.
Transport
Rent a car at the airport (Avis, Hertz) for independent exploration. High season runs $100/day; low-season advance booking can halve that. Free resort shuttle runs every 15 minutes connecting all accommodation. 100km/day rental limit is easily exceeded driving to Kata Tjuta.
