Overview
Xinyu is Jiangxi's smallest prefecture-level city, serving as an industrial and transport hub in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The city is best known for Fairy Lake (仙女湖), a scenic area with over 200 islands covering 200 square km including 50 square km of water.

Regional Jiangxi cuisine with fish and tofu stew, rice noodles, and lake fish dishes. Xinyu honeydew oranges are a famous local product exported internationally.

Standard Chinese Yuan (CNY) used throughout. Mobile payment (WeChat Pay, Alipay) widely accepted in cities. Cash may be needed in rural areas and small vendors.
Transport
Xinyu North Railway Station serves high-speed trains on the Shanghai-Kunming line. Local buses 503 and tourist buses connect the railway station to Fairy Lake Scenic Area. City bus routes 103, 301, 401, 602, 701, 801, 803, 805, 901, 904 serve Baoshi Park and other attractions.

Subtropical humid climate with hot, humid summers (June-August sees 200+ mm rainfall per month) and cool, dry winters. July averages 29.4°C, January around 5.4°C. March is most humid at 84 percent.
