Overview
Waterton Lakes National Park is the Canadian half of Waterton Glacier International Peace Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and Biosphere Reserve. Covering 505 km² in Alberta's southwestern corner, it protects the southernmost portion of the Canadian Rockies.

No dedicated Internet cafés. WiFi available at some restaurants and coffee shops. Pearl's Café offers free computer use with purchase.
Money
Park fees: Adult $11, Senior $9.50, Youth/children free, Family $22 (2024). Townsite goods carry a premium—stock up before entering the park.
Safety
Bear and cougar country—make noise while hiking. US border controls beyond the 49th parallel require valid passport. Strong winds common in townsite.
Transport
No bus service to the park. Drive via Highway 5 from Lethbridge (1.5 hrs) or Calgary (3 hrs). Highway 6 border crossing to Glacier NP open May-October only.
Weather
Summers mild (23-25°C average), can reach 30°C. Winters severe to -30°C but chinook winds bring sudden warm spells. Year-round winds at Bear's Hump.
