Before you go
Accommodation
Budget guesthouses cluster near Bankey Bihari Temple and ISKCON on Raman Reti Road. All are vegetarian establishments. A/C rooms from ₹800-1000 are the sweet spot for comfort and cost.
Connectivity
Good 4G coverage from Airtel, Jio, and Vi. Free Wi-Fi at select hotels. Consider buying a local SIM in Delhi for better data rates than roaming.
Culture
Vrindavan is a major Hindu pilgrimage site with 5000+ temples. Expect intense devotional atmosphere, chanting throughout the day, and widow communities singing bhajans in ashrams.
Food
Strictly vegetarian town—no meat, eggs, or alcohol anywhere. Local thalis and street chaat cost ₹100-200. ISKCON-affiliated restaurants offer the cleanest food with Western options.
Money
Indian Rupees (₹) accepted everywhere. ATMs available but carry some cash for temples, rickshaws, and small vendors. Credit cards rarely accepted outside of upscale hotels.
Safety
Beware temple scam guides demanding large donations. Monkeys steal cameras and glasses—keep everything zipped. Crowds and heat can overwhelm; carry water and pace yourself.
Transport
Cycle rickshaws are the primary local transport (₹20 between temples). Auto-rickshaws to/from Mathura cost around ₹100. No English road signs—carry your accommodation address written in Hindi.
Weather
October-March offers pleasant temperatures for temple walking. April-June summers exceed 40°C. The Brahmotsava Festival (post-Holi, Feb/March) draws 100,000+ visitors.
