Overview
Vila Nova de Foz Côa is a small town of 7,300 people in northern Portugal's Alto Douro wine region, best known as the gateway to the Côa Valley's UNESCO-listed Paleolithic rock engravings. The Côa Museum provides essential context before visiting the outdoor sites where thousands of prehistoric drawings of horses, bovines, and other animals were carved between 22,000 and 10,000 BCE.
