Overview
Vila do Conde is a Portuguese bathing centre on the north bank of the Rio Ave mouth, part of the same urban agglomeration as Póvoa de Varzim. It has long been associated with lace-making and maintains a fascinating old town still functioning as a minor port.

Vila do Conde is famous for lace-making (rendas), with a dedicated museum. The city was a major shipyard during early Maritime Discoveries; a replica Nau ship sits by the riverside.
Festivals
The São João festivities (June 23-24) are the city's biggest event, considered Portugal's oldest saint celebration with unique traditions including Orvalhadas singing and Sanjoanine waterfalls.

Transport
Metro Line B connects Vila do Conde to Porto (€3.20) and the airport. Local buses cost €2.25 per ride; Moovit covers schedules. The compact city centre is walkable.
