Overview
Urgench is a utilitarian city in Uzbekistan's Khorezm region, primarily known as a transport hub for travelers heading to Khiva (45 km west) and the UNESCO-listed ruins of Konye Urgench. The modern city was founded under Russian Imperial rule in the 19th century, lacking the historic architecture that draws visitors to its neighbors.
