Before you go
Connectivity
Mobile coverage exists but may be patchy in remote areas. WiFi available at cafés and some attractions. Standard Swedish SIM cards work throughout.
History
Viking-era runestones and archaeological sites are scattered throughout — many are small and not always easy to find. Valsgärde is the most significant site with boat burials.
Money
Swedish krona (SEK) is the currency. Cards accepted almost everywhere. Camping lots from 100 kr, cabins from 400-2000 kr depending on season.
Transport
UL buses serve most settlements. Upptåget local train connects Uppsala with Storvreta, Vattholma, and Skyttorp. Cycling is highly practical due to flat terrain and good infrastructure.
Weather
Winter brings harsh conditions with occasional blizzards. Summer (June-August) is best for outdoor activities. Some sites have limited seasonal hours — check ahead.
