Overview
Ullapool is a small village of 1500 residents on the shores of Loch Broom in Ross and Cromarty. It's primarily known as the ferry port for Stornoway on Lewis, but the village itself has quietly become a hub for walkers, cyclists, and art lovers.

Food
Seafood Shack (9 West Argyle St) has the best reputation with always a queue. The Seaforth is cash only. Saturday market Apr-Sep has local produce, crafts, smoked cheese and fish.
Money
Bank of Scotland on West Argyle St open Mon, Wed, Fri 10AM-2PM. Royal Bank of Scotland 100 yards east open Mon-Fri 09:30-15:30. Tesco ATM on Latheron Lane. Most places accept cards but The Seaforth is cash only.
Transport
Scottish Citylink Bus 961 runs 80 min from Inverness (£16) timed to meet ferries. CalMac ferries to Stornoway (2 hr 30 min) often sell out in summer—book ahead even as foot passenger. Local taxis: Ullapool Taxis +44 7517 612619.
Weather
Highland weather is changeable; bring layers year-round. May-July nights never get fully dark, just a brief 'simmer dim'—bad for stargazing but long for hiking.
