Overview
Trier claims to be Germany's oldest city, founded by the Romans as Augusta Treverorum around 16 BC, and disputes the title with Augsburg, Cologne, Kempten and Xanten. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its remarkable Roman monuments: the Porta Nigra, Imperial Baths, Barbara Baths, Forum Baths, Roman Amphitheatre, and the Basilica of Constantine.
