Overview
Þingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in South Iceland where the North American and European tectonic plates visibly diverge, creating dramatic rift valleys and fissures. The park holds global historical significance as the site of the Alþingi, the world's longest-running parliament, established in 930 AD.

Limited food options on-site: small café with hot dogs, drinks, snacks. Bring supplies or eat in Reykjavík.

Park entrance is free. Fishing permits cost 1,500 kr/day. All prices in Icelandic króna (ISK).
Safety
Unstable rocks near fissures—stay back from edges. Watch children. Check road conditions in winter.
Transport
One hour from Reykjavík by car via Mosfellsbaer and route 36, or by summer bus from BSÍ terminal (fare 1,700 kr).
Weather
One of Iceland's best weather areas, but conditions change rapidly. Cold nights possible even after warm days. Heavy snow in winter.
