Overview
Thetford Forest is Britain's largest lowland forest at 47,000 acres (19,000 hectares), straddling Norfolk and Suffolk. It's an Area of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with ancient archaeological sites, family-friendly adventure activities at High Lodge, and extensive trail networks for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders.

Connectivity
Mobile phone signal is limited in remote forest areas. WiFi available at The Great Eastern Hotel in Brandon. No WiFi in the forest itself.
Money
Entry to the forest is free. Some attractions charge fees (Grime's Graves: adult £4.30, child £2.60). Major credit cards accepted at supermarkets and hotels. ATMs available in Brandon at Tesco.
Packing
Bring walking boots or sturdy shoes, waterproof layers, and sun protection. Bike hire available at High Lodge. Dogs welcome at most sites (on leads where required).
Safety
Remote areas have no phone signal. Check Forestry Commission for any active forestry operations. Carry water in summer. Download offline maps before entering the forest.
Transport
The A134 main road crosses the forest; minor roads B1065, B1107, and B1106 provide access to different areas. Nearest railway is Brandon on the Breckland Line connecting Cambridge and Norwich.
Weather
East Anglia is drier than western UK. Best months are May-September with 200+ sunshine hours in July. Winter can be cold (0-7°C) with limited daylight.
