Overview
Telford is a purpose-built new town in Shropshire, West Midlands, formed in the 1960s and 1970s by combining historic mining villages, farms, and market towns into one large conurbation stretching from Wellington to Shifnal and Donnington to Madeley. Named after pioneering civil engineer Thomas Telford, the town serves as Shropshire's largest settlement with 165,000 residents and offers industrial heritage attractions, Victorian living history museums, and nearby Ironbridge Gorge—a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Before you go
Culture
Telford has historical sensitivities around child exploitation cases that have been exploited politically. Best avoided in conversation.

Safety
Generally safe in tourist areas. Avoid council estates (Brookside, Woodside, Stirchley, Randley, Sutton Hill) at night. Some pubs have issues with xenophobic behaviour.
