Taveuni is Fiji's 'garden island' — rugged, verdant, and pristine with around 80% of its land protected by Bouma National Heritage Park. Unlike the main islands, mongooses were never introduced here, so rare bird species still thrive.

Money
Only one ATM exists on Taveuni, located in Naqara. Plan cash needs in advance — credit cards have limited acceptance outside resorts.
Safety
No mongooses on Taveuni means excellent birdwatching. Standard tropical precautions apply at beaches and waterfalls.
Transport
Local bus costs around $5 and runs a couple times daily to Lavena. Vodafone eTransport cards accepted for fare payment. Taxis are expensive.
Weather
Taveuni is very wet year-round. Don't wait for the rain to stop — weather forecasts are unreliable here.
