Overview

Tarrytown is a compact Hudson Valley village that makes an easy day trip or weekend escape from New York City. The village is famous as the home of Washington Irving, author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip van Winkle," and the Gothic mansion Lyndhurst (once owned by railroad magnate Jay Gould) anchors the southern end of town.
